Hi, my name is Umi Wimberly, and I am a multimedia designer based in Denver, Colorado with a deep passion for creating designs that push boundaries and spark conversations. This allows me to craft impactful, memorable visuals that challenge conventional thinking. My design philosophy embraces the power of creativity to tell stories, advocate for change, and amplify underrepresented voices.
I have accomplished many things over the course of my professional and academic career, including working for the Survivor Advocacy and Feminist Education Center and the Black/African American Cultural Center. These opportunities allowed me to merge my love for design with my commitment to social justice. In my roles as a graphic designer and content coordinator at these organizations, I used visual storytelling to advocate for positive change and elevate cultural narratives. Each of my projects allowed me to explore new, unconventional perspectives that could inspire a shift in thinking.
My academic career recently ended when I graduated Cum Laude from Colorado State University with a degree in Journalism and Media Communications. During my time there, I was also placed on the dean’s list from Fall of 2023 to Spring of 2025. This academic foundation challenged me to hone my ability to combine strong visual design with strategic communication. This ensured that my work was not only aesthetically pleasing, but purposeful and effective. Through this program, and my work, I gained an expertise in Adobe Illustrator, Premiere, Photoshop, and After Effects which allows me to bring my ideas to life in a visually striking and thought-provoking manner.
Beyond my work and schooling, I hold a deep love for music, drawing, video games, and all things pop culture. These interests have followed me from childhood into my adult life where I can use them to fuel my creative process, inspire innovative ideas, and push me to break creative boundaries. After all, if you want to stand out, you must challenge a few norms and break some rules.
